Presidential Campus Enrichment Grant Program

The Presidential Campus Enrichment Grant (PCEG) for students was established in the spring of 2001 as a cross-college effort at enhancing diversity at Virginia Tech. Selection criteria include diversity activities of the candidate before arriving at Virginia Tech as well as their commitment to educational diversity. Academic achievement, financial status, and family educational background are also considered in the selection process. To ensure the fostering of educational diversity, recipients are required to continue and expand their activities on the campus and in the community by participating in programs and writing about their experiences in a journal. Other activities and the monitoring of progress are coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 QCA or better and be enrolled as a full-time students.

Journal Requirement

Each PCEG recipient must maintain a journal for the course of the academic year. Journal entries include reflections on your activities and experiences listed in the Diversity Requirement above. Entries should be made on a bi-weekly basis and should include the following:

A summary of the event
How this event relates to diversity/multiculturalism
How it has affected you personally

Journal entries can also include experiences not directly related to an organized activity, e.g. you and some friends get together and the issue of religion is discussed. You can use this as a journal entry as long as you can reflect on that discussion and what you personally gained from it. At the end of each semester, journals should be sent to Alicia Cohen ( acohen@vt.edu ) as an e-mail attachment.

In order to receive merits for events, you must submit a journal entry reflecting on that event.
Students are responsible for tracking their events.

Fall journals are due on Thursday, December 11.   For the 2003-2004 year, new participants must complete 12 merits during the course of the academic year.
